A salt water lamp is an eco-friendly emergency light that generates electricity through a chemical reaction between salt water, magnesium sheets and carbon sheets. It requires no batteries, no charging, and can be lit immediately by adding salt water, making it a portable and sustainable lighting solution.
How does a salt water lamp work?
It operates based on the principle of a primary battery: the magnesium alloy serves as the negative electrode, the activated carbon as the positive electrode, and the salt water as the electrolyte. When these three components come into contact, a chemical reaction occurs to generate electricity, which then lights up the built-in LED bulbs.
How long can the salt water lamp stay lit?
- One fill of salt water: It can stay lit for 24 to 72 hours, and the brightness will gradually dim as the reaction proceeds. - Magnesium sheet lifespan: Each magnesium sheet can last about 500 to 1000 hours. When the magnesium sheet is exhausted (becomes thin or white), it needs to be replaced to ensure normal use.
